
San Diego Crew Classic
After 45 years, the San Diego Crew Classic is the nation’s premier spring rowing event. More than 3,500 athletes from across the U.S., Mexico and Canada participate in 35 events and 120 races along the shores of Mission Bay Park. With $150,000 in funding from SDTMD in FY18, the event generated approximately 6,500 hotel room nights and an 8.1 to 1 return on investment.
Key highlights FY 2018:
- The event includes retail kiosks, a variety of food booths and a Jumbotron viewing area as its center point.
- Freedom Rows is a highlight of the event and includes competitions with wounded warrior athletes.
- The Copley Cup format was modified to run duel races, which brought a new level of excitement to the highest level of men’s collegiate competition
- The California SwimRun was added at the end of race day on Sunday which brought new competitors, vendors and fans
