Each year, the majority of SDTMD’s funding is awarded to San Diego Tourism Authority, the City’s destination marketing organization. Remaining funds are allocated to organizations, events and programs that can demonstrate an increase in hotel room nights and a measurable return on investment. One of the primary ways that the SDTMD works to bring visitors to San Diego and increase room night stays is through the direct funding of contractors for various events and programs. Funding is requested through the annual application process. If SDTMD funds remain available, qualifying organizations may apply for supplemental funding outside of the annual cycle.
